A Life at the Easel

Mal Gilmour

Studio, 7 Tarnagulla Road, Inglewood

From the first tentative attempts at learning to paint when he returned from military service, through the determined, unflinching progress as he made his name against the odds, Mal Gilmour has long been a highly respected artist. His latest passion is miniatures, and you can see the same meticulous care in these tiny works, as part of the extraordinary exhibition – a kind of compilation of over half a century of painting – that he and his wife Wendy have created in the gallery and studio behind their Inglewood home. Mal’s passion for painting as well as for Australian landscapes and gum trees can be seen in every stroke of his brush, a kind of poetry in motion.
