BLOOMING
Gallery, Bridgewater Nursery
Kerry L Brown, Teresa Holmberg, Sue James
Keen gardeners know just what a cornucopia of seedlings, plants, plus gifts and inspiration is to be found in Bianca’s Bridgewater Nursery, so, for Arts Trail festival, we’re growing the delights to be found there with an art exhibition full of glorious energy and joy. “Blooming” is all about botanical art and other exuberance, with paintings by Bendigo artists Kerry Brown and Teresa Holmberg, as well as signature ceramics by Sue James. Rich in colour, pleasing to the eye and the mind: “Blooming” at the Nursery beautifully displays the bond between creativity, art and nature.
Kerry L Brown is a visual artist based in regional Victoria, passionate about the Australian landscape and with a love of quirky, mid-century décor. Her work is confident, illustrative and textural. Beyond the layers of colours, brushstrokes and line work is an underlying delicacy and quietness, that reflects her thoughtful nature and an ability to capture the psyche of her subject, be it landscape, interior or abstract.
Teresa Holmberg is a self confessed plant mama, and passionate creator who works from her home-studio in Mandurang. She draws inspiration from her garden and wildlife, with a sketchbook as a daily meditation. Colour and symmetry are recurring themes, as are botanicals, and the occasional bird. Working with pen pencil and paints, she also uses traditional and digital methods to bring the original illustrations to life.
Sue James: From her studio and gallery in Maldon, clayworker Sue James makes an enormous range of decorative objects, jewellery and pottery. Some of her work features flora and fauna, such as flowering gums, bees, kookaburras, wattle and hakea. A highly skilled and experienced artist, her ceramic pots, vases and bowls are both functional and attractive, with a special range created for feature display.
