Event The Gathering. Sunday 5 October from 10am: Continuing the Logan Pub tradition of a coffee cruise for car enthusiasts, Darron Davies be there with his camera, so will the Coffee to Di For coffee van, for a perfect cuppa and cake.

For years now, Central Victorian photographer Darron Davies has been building a portrait of a significant cultural community – the people of the Castlemaine Hot Rod Club, their cars, and their workspaces. There’s a fine balance in these images, which are moody and emotional like Renaissance paintings, portraits of individuals and the cars they painstakingly restore. He’s also headed out to Speed Week at Lake Gardiner in South Australia, to photograph the “Gods of the Salt”. This outstanding exhibition takes place in the Logan Pub in the Bush, renowned as a once-a-year gathering place for restored car enthusiasts. Never before have art, cars, and the people who admire both, come together in such a perfectly suited venue. A car show with a difference in Logan – start your engines!

Darron Davies is based in Castlemaine, and has widely exhibited both digital and filmwork. His series include The Diggings, Elegy Japan, The Relics of Sport, Wimmera and Written by the Sea. His long-term project, The Rodders, documents through portraiture the members of the Castlemaine Hot Rod club and their cars. A subsequent series, The Gods of the Salt, captures the Dry Lake Racers at Lake Gairdner in South Australia. A deeply thoughtful photographer, Darron applies his considered approaches to each subject, infusing his image with biographical elements and often an Old Masters aesthetic.
