IMMORTALS

Clayton Tremlett

Mysia War Memorial School

One hundred years after Digger memorials were placed in towns right across Victoria, artist Clayton Tremlett undertook a mammoth task: researching the sculpted figures of soldiers, to create a portrait study in serigraphs (silk screen prints) of 46 memorials, many of them now weathered and marked by time. This extraordinary, unforgettable exhibition, is presented in the hauntingly evocative Mysia War Memorial School, now also weathered since closing as a school in the 1950s, but respectfully cared for by volunteers for this small community. Take the road out of Wedderburn towards this lonely dot-on-the-map, where the Immortals, and the way Australia grieved for those who died, are beautifully remembered.
