TRIBUTE TO THE LODDON
Inglewood Community Neighbourhood House and Town Hall
Kathy Landvogt and Chi-uh Star
The immense Loddon River is joined by 19 tributaries over 392 ks, from its source to its mouth. Inspired by old topography maps and also by the 19th century samplers stitched by women, Kathy Landvogt has created an art installation that makes new links between different types of knowledge. With works by projection artist Chi-uh Star, Kathy’s suspended wire and fibre sculptures create a stunning tribute to the Loddon. Using rooms within the Inglewood Town Hall and Neighbourhood House complex, Kathy and Chi-uh’s truly unique Tribute project is surprising and inspirational, showing how the waterway links communities and weaves history with the environment.
Kathy Landvogt lives and works in Castlemaine. Having developed her visual art practice alongside a career in social policy, Kathy now devotes herself to making sculpture, mixed media art and contemporary textiles that give material form to overlooked realities. Kathy uses the repetitive actions of handling fibre to connect her with the female heritage of manual textile work. The emotional qualities of the material and the process itself guide the work. She often works with fine-gauged copper wire, utilising its memory, strength and malleability. Kathy actively takes on new challenges, collaborating with other artists, utilising traditional textile techniques in novel ways, stretching her material knowledge and peeling back her own experiences.
Chi-uh Star is a multidisciplinary artist specialising in visual, immersive installation, and projection art. Since 2020, she has presented work at festivals across Victoria and in 2022 delivered Cloudland, a solo immersive sound and light show at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre, Melbourne. She collaborated with Kathy Landvogt on her show Tribute, which was presented at Parallel Projects gallery in 2024. As an immersive installation artist, Chi-uh is passionate about deepening audience engagement by incorporating environmental sounds and local community stories into the gallery space.
