YUNG BALUG: THE KEEPING PLACE
3645 Boort Pyramid Road, Boort
Alongside Lake Boort, Paul and Cathie Haw’s Keeping Place, Yung Balug, displays a very large collection of Yung Balug Clan artefacts donated mainly by retired farmers from the surrounding districts. Thanks to the State Library of Victoria, the Yung Balug Aboriginal Artefacts Museum now exhibits some of the oldest photos of Aborigines living on the creek that flows into Lake Boort, taken in the early 1850s by John Hunter Kerr. The exhibition also contains a large collection of artefacts from other states of Australia presented by Rob Croll - twice world boomerang throwing champion. Also featured in the collection are carved emu eggs by Sam Kirby and his daughter Esther Kirby, both renowned artists.
Entry by donation.
